A lifetime mortgage is a type of equity release. The lifetime mortgage is a long-term loan which is secured on your property. Unlike a regular mortgage, you don’t have to make any repayments until the end of the plan, which can be when you sell your property when you die, or you are moved into long-term care. Each year an interest will be added on top of the loan.
Remember this approach will reduce the inheritance that you leave behind.
A retirement plan can be adapted from person to person. The trick is to find out what retirement plan best suits you and your needs, whether you want your retirement funds in one big lump or if you would like to manage it out in smaller doses. How early do you wish to begin your retirement? It is also very important to be able to change your retirement plan depending on circumstances.
This is a method in which people are able to access their pensions on a flexible basis under Flexible Access Drawdown. This is a way for people to take tax-free cash and/ or income from their pension plan as an as-needed basis over time, this can be on a regular basis or as a series of one-off withdrawals.
The first 25% of any withdrawal will be tax-free, then the balance will be taxed as income.
Equity release is a generic term which allows clients aged 55 and over to access the equity within their property without needing to move from their property. The money that then is released from the property can either be given in a lump sum or can be in released in smaller amounts.
Both equity release plans are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
Home reversion is the sale of part or all the property at a lower rate than the market value to a home reversion company, in return, you will be given a lump sum or regular payments, depending on which you choose. For people who opt into a lifetime mortgage plan can still live in the property after selling all of it to the home reversion company, this is until they die or move into long-term care.
