Pension Consolidation
John was aged 52 and had approximately £250,000 held in various personal and company pension plans. He was looking to consolidate his funds into a single plan, and to then continue to build the fund towards retirement, and came to us for advice.
Whilst John didn't consider himself to be an expert on investments, he did have an interest and also wanted to have personal control and flexibilty as to how the pension funds were invested and when the benefits could be drawn.
After further investigation into John's existing pension plans, it was agreed that moving his existing plans into one new arrangement would be sensible, and it was also agreed that an expert investment manager should be appointed. After discussions around the extent to which John was happy to take investment risk, a relatively balanced portfolio was constructed, providing some growth potential but with a degree of security to ensure that the fund is not exposed to undue risk. Using a range of collective investments to provide potential growth whilst limiting risk provides a portfolio that is both adaptable to meet John's changing needs and allows him to sleep more soundly at night.
Regular reviews in the future with both ourselves and the investment manager will allow for changes in the strategy as and when necessary.
